Good marble case with no breaks or chips, with beautiful gilded bronze ornamentation. The total height is 25 inches. The clock has a one piece porcelain dial with painted numerals and exquisite French hands. This antique French mantle clock has an eight day round French movement and bell strike. A museum quality antique English miniature mantel clock. This magnificent Dore bronze gilded masterpiece C 1870-80 was made by Howell & James, London, makers to the Queen of England. This marvelous miniature antique mantle clock has cherubs on both sides and possesses the most exquisite Cloisonne enameling in the center. Howell & James were also noted jewelers and silversmiths who were established in 1819. They exhibited in London in 1851, 1862, 1867 and again in 1871 and 1872, as well as in Paris in 1878 . By the 1870s Howel & James were probably the largest business in London concerned with art manufacture and the retailing of art ceramics, furniture, clocks and metalware. Their annual show instituted in 1875, rivaled the Royal Academy as a social and artistic event of the London season. The clocks designed for the firm by Lewis F. Day were one of Howell and James most distinctive and special attractions. The size is 7 3/8" tall to the point x 4 5/8" wide x 4" deep. Price: $7,500.
This is a gorgeous antique French mantel clock with matching candelabra. This stunning French nineteenth century gilded bronze mantel clock set is comprised of a figural mantel clock with two adorning candelabra. It is from the early part of the 1800s with a silk string suspension and is a classic example of the Empire periods. Here is a charming Restoration period, gilded and patinated figural antique French mantel clock from the early 1800s, featuring a gleaner boy with a scythe resting against the drum-form clock case. The circular dial is enameled and having black Roman chapters, with an overall height of 13-3/4", width of 11-1/8" and a depth of 4-1/8". C 1830-40. One interesting side note, for the history or "provenance" buffs, is that on the side of the clock are the actual dates the clock was presented to the various members of a single family starting with 1831, with "John G. MacMurray (presented) to Antoinette Warner, 1831". These names are also in Google. Price: $4,500.00
This is a most beautiful combination of white marble and gilded bronze that one can imagine. It is an antique French bronze and marble mantel Clock, c 1870, with a striking bell movement marked "Mougin" for A.D. Mougin, one of the better French clockmakers of the period. It is surmounted by wreath, bow and torch trophée. The mantle clock features a porcelain dial, glass wall case mounted with ribbons and floral sprays. The height is 13 inches, width 7 3/4 inches and depth 4 1/4 inches. Price: $5,000.
This truly fabulous work of art is a porcelain mantel clock by the famous French porcelain artist Jacob Petit (1796-1868). Jacob Petit owned one of the most important and well-known porcelain factories in France, becoming one of the major producers of Rococo ornamental ware during the 1830s. Petit was imitated throughout Europe and his name was given to a Rococo Revival style that reflected the many different influences on Petit’s designs. His highly decorative porcelain was enormously popular in both England and France and has proven to be well-made and designed to endure the test of time. This clock is in unbelievable condition and having always been fully serviced and working eagerly. It measures 9" high including carriage handle. The movement is a silk suspension and its a nice delicate small size with a bell strike that strikes on half and full hours counting the hours. Teaming up here with the very admirable Henry Marc clockmaker of Paris with his name clearly marked on the silver dial with a very delightful mild decoration and covered by a glass hinged door. The clock is clearly marked with the under glaze blue j.p inside the bottom and comes with its pendulum with matching numbers to this marvelous antique mantel clock. Price: $3,500.
